Old Tea House “Amazake Chaya” Exploration Tour

Located halfway up Mount Hakone, a difficult stretch of the Tokaido road, Hakone Amazake-chaya is a old tea house that has been in business for 13 generations since its founding in the early Edo period. It retains the atmosphere it has had since its founding, with its thatched roof, hearth, and earthen floor. This is a tour where you can hear about the history of Amazake-chaya and the Tokaido road from the 13th generation owner.

A sweet cafe that stands out against the winter scenery. This is a limited-time course where you can enjoy additive-free amazake, brewed using a method handed down since the Edo period, while warming yourself by the fire in the hearth.

A Hakone Kowakien staff member will accompany you and take you to Amazake-chaya by car.

Participation fee: 2,000 yen/person/includes a glass of Amazake

⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎Amasake Facts⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎

Amasake is a non-alcoholic beverage. Kids and drivers can enjoy amasake. Amasake is a traditional Japanese beverage which uses fermentation the same yogurt and miso. The recipe which only uses koji(a mold used in fermentation)and rice,has not changed since the Edo era.

It has a natural sweetness from glucose no sugar is added.

Nutritious amasake is exceptionally effective for fatigue recovery. The say that is used to be drunk by mountain-crossing travelers as a complete nutritional drink.
